River of Change

“In times of change, learners inherit the earth, while the learned find themselves beautifully equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists.”Eric Hoffer

Change is inevitable.  It can confront us in our external world (pink slip, accident, loss) and it can confront us in our internal world (bored with our job, restlessness, longing for more).  I remember being surprised that I found my work in a job early in my career feeling “stale”, especially after working so hard to attain the “perfect” job.

Change happens.  And if our learning has outgrown itself, if we find ourselves equipped for  a world that no longer exists, then it’s an opportunity to acknowledge our growth, and come to terms with our being out of sync with that growth in tolerating the status quo.

This is a good place to be, uncomfortable as it is – it means we’ve grown, we’ve expanded.

And if we had some tools and skills to mitigate this discomfort, that is even better!

Well, I believe we are equipped – with our innate creativity.

We just need to know how to leverage that aspect of ourselves to ride this river of change we are all in.  We need to know how to use our paddle(strengths), the obstacles in the flow (transforming apparent negatives), and our own inner compass(purpose) to have the ride of our life(passion).

So I invite you to join me as a learner. It doesn’t matter what dimension of the life change process you are in.  We will all flow together in this great river of  life.
